Annerose Schmidt (October 5, 1936 in Lutherstadt Wittenberg; March 10, 2022)
was a German pianist and university teacher.
Annerose Schmidt was nine years old when she gave her first piano concert on December 2, 1945 in her hometown of Wittenberg. She played pieces by Frédéric Chopin, Johann Sebastian Bach and Franz Liszt.[2] In 1948 she received her concert diploma. After graduating from high school in Wittenberg, Annerose Schmidt began studying at the Musikhochschule in Leipzig with Hugo Steurer.
In 1955 she received an award at the Chopin Competition in Warsaw. In 1956 she won the All-German Piano Competition and the International Robert Schumann Competition in Berlin. This started her international career. She undertook concert tours to Poland, Romania, Hungary, Bulgaria and the Soviet Union.
From 1958 concert tours through Western Europe followed with important conductors and well-known orchestras in Finland, Denmark, Sweden, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg and Austria. She has also made guest appearances overseas in the United States, Canada and Japan, and Lebanon. She recorded the standard works of the piano literature by Mozart and Schumann for Eurodisc, Columbia, Eterna and other record companies, for example all Mozart piano concertos with the Dresden Philharmonic under the direction of Kurt Masur. Annerose Schmidt is one of the few German artists from the classical genre to have a quadro LP in real quadraphony (CD-4).
In 1987, Annerose Schmidt became a professor and head of a master class for piano at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music in Berlin. In March 1990 she became rector of the music academy and held this position until 1995. Her musical competence was in demand in committees such as the Berlin Academy of Arts, for example as a jury member of the Chopin Jubilee Competition in 2000.
