Bram Boelee, Piano
Bram Boelee (Rotterdam, January 5, 1927 - Berkenwoude, July 22, 2008)
was a Dutch concert pianist.
Bram Boelee became known for performing piano works by Schumann and Chopin. His game was labeled as "romantic". In 1950 he won the Julius Röntgen Prize with renditions of Bach-Busoni and Beethoven. In 1951 and 1954 prizes followed at the International Music Competition in Geneva and a career started with concerts at home and abroad. In 1964 he made his first record with compositions by Chopin. A recording in 1968, again with works by Chopin, brought it to a "golden plate".
In 2017 his wife published a publication about the life of Bram Boelee (under private management) under the title "Bram Boelee A special person 1927-2008". This 460-page book not only describes the life of Bram Boelee, but also describes the life of a classical musician and music teacher in the fifties and sixties of the 20th century. The book provides a good insight into classical music life in those years and in particular in post-war Rotterdam.
